Catholics from various provinces are joining hundreds from around Guadalcanal for a religious gathering at Visale, West Guadalcanal.
Solomon Star’s Guadalcanal stringer John Toki said Visale is packed with visitors at the moment.
Toki said the gathering is to share peace under a religious ministerial initiative called ‘Ministry of Light’.
“Ministry of Light started within the Catholic church in the Auki diocese in Malaita, and was aimed at campaigning for spiritual peace for the country,” he said.
Coordinator Tedious Maori expressed gratitude that the ministry has been brought to Guadalcanal’s Visale parish.
“Churches and Christians must stand together and work to achieve meaningful and true peace for the country,” Maori said.
Toki said that the celebration started Wednesday and will end today.
He said the ministry promotes reconciliation and peace.
He added according to one of the members, the ministry was initiated after a spiritual revelation.
The coordinator said the country needs true forgiveness and reconciliation which starts from within.
“We believe real reconciliation and forgiveness comes from within. No money or goods can bring real forgiveness and reconciliation,” the ministry’s coordinator said.
Toki said that ministry is new to the Catholic churches within Guadalcanal and others but has been overwhelmingly welcomed.
Participants from Malaita, Guadalcanal, Makira and Savo/ Russel are attending the programme.
