JAPAN’S Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and his delegation today visited Hell’s Point where they were welcomed by Minister for Police National Security and Correctional Services Anthony Veke.
A statement from the Police Media said Mr Veke and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force were present to welcome the visiting delegation.
“On behalf of the Solomon Island government I want to acknowledge the important work the government of Japan has continued to support and assist us with by dealing with the unexploded ordnance (UXOs),” Mr Veke said.
“This is an establishment that has recently received dedicated support from your government to achieve its goals.
“Our government is committed to ensure that this EOD unit remains an integral part within the RSIPF.”
However, the Minister said the technicality and speciality of the EOD needs outside expertise and support to deliver.
Therefore, he said Solomon Islands greatly appreciated all the support rendered by Japan.
“This funding assistance will not be taken lightly but with deep praise and admiration,” Minister Veke said.
“This support will greatly compliment the ongoing work that the Australian government is currently engaged in with the EOD unit.
“Thank you to the vice Minister for Foreign Affairs for your visit to this establishment.
“Please be assured that my government will forever be grateful to what the government of Japan has done for us in terms of our social, economic and security development programs.”
The police statement did not mention the type of funding assistance which Mr Veke thanked the visiting Japanese delegation for.
