Fiji Times – Visitor arrivals in Fiji for August this year totalled 69,632, an increase of 5 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year.
“There were increases in the number of visitors from NZ (2225 or 15.6 per cent to 16,480), the US (676 or 13.6 per cent to 5642), Australia (408 or 1.2 per cent to 33,609), China (341 or 18.4 per cent to 2199), other countries (131 or 20.2 per cent to 778) and Pacific Islands (94 or 2.8 per cent to 3398),” the report said.
However, it recorded decreases in the number of visitors from Japan, Canada, UK, rest of Asia, South Korea and Continental Europe.
The report said visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 80 per cent of total arrivals, 7.2 per cent came to visit their friends or relatives, 3.2 per cent for business purposes while 9.6 per cent visited Fiji for other reasons.
It said Australia recorded a large number of arrivals followed by New Zealand and the US and Canada.
In July, revised number shows that visitor arrivals totalled 70,816, an increase of 4.4 per cent compared with the same month last year.
However, there was a 0.6 per cent decrease in Australian visitor arrivals.
New Zealand recorded a 15.3 per cent increase on its visitor arrivals.
