PRESIDENT of the Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) Morris Maitaki has congratulated our women’s beach volleyball team for winning a bronze medal at AVC Oceania Continental Tokyo Olympic Games qualification.
Despite winning bronze medal Solomon Islands beach volleyball, unfortunately, missed the opportunity to set foot in Tokyo as only gold medal winner is eligible to represent Oceania in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“Congratulations Rose Gwali and Hanna Donga to win bronze medal against its rival Fiji,” the president said in a statement last night.
“Despite losing a spot in our bid to qualify for the Olympic games, the result itself is more than enough and this will boost their chances to enter other events like commonwealth and FIVB world tour and regional events,” Maitaki expressed.
He further stressed, that as a president he is so delighted with the recent performance of our two girls given the situation they’ve gone through as part of their preparation in Honiara.
“Our next plan for our two girls is to send them overseas to attend high-performance camping in Australia or NZ in the next couple of months.
“This is part of our preparation for the upcoming Oceania championship and Commonwealth Games Qualifications and Mini-Games next year 2021.
“Our team has been blessed with the current support provided for under IOC Olympic Solidarity and National Hosting Authority Sol2023 support program.
“It is anticipating that during training camps they will go through extensive training, coaching, strength and conditioning program,” he said.
The president also highlighted that the beach girls will possibly attend to national tours in Australia and New Zealand and hopefully attending any world tour star event in Asia.
Meanwhile, president Maitaki also took the opportunity to thank those who supported the SIVF Beach program.
“Thank you GBR management for providing us a training venue, NHA and NOCSI for the assistance rendered to our team that enables them to play against strong teams in the region.
