NORTH West Guadalcanal people have uttered their gratitude towards their Member of Parliament Bodo Detke for his stand with Taiwan instead of China.
Former Member of Provincial Assembly for Sahalu ward Kanuto Kobi relayed the statement through the North West Guadalcanal Stringer John Toki on Monday.
“We the people of Sahalu ward in N/West Guadalcanal wish to thank our MP Bodo Detke for taking a strong and fair stand for not supporting the switch from ROC Taiwan,” he said.
Mr Kobi said for the last 10 years, they have actually received the assistance from ROC Taiwan and have enjoyed the kind of relationship with Taiwan.
He said the official statement by their Premier Francis Sade does not sink well with them as it was his own decision and not that of the people of Guadalcanal.
“We know that our Premier is in support with China but he should have come out clear and talked to the people before making any decision or comment,” he said.
Mr Kobi said China is looking for the resources which are owned by the people.
“So we appeal to the Guadalcanal province government to make a right decision and avoid someone to pull you by the nose,” he said.
