Malaita provincial police has promised to take care of a newly opened complex in Auki over the weekend.
“We will look after the building and ensure it serves its purpose here in Malaita Province,” said, the Malaita Supervising Provincial Police Commander Timothy Apaesi.
He made the assurance in an interview with the Solomon Star in Auki over the weekend after the Police Commissioner Matthew Varley urged Auki police to take care of the new Police building.
Commissioner Varley officially opened the building in Auki, Sunday morning.
PPC Apaesi said the building is an important facility for the Auki and Malaita police.
“This building will greatly help improve police capacity here in the province.
“It will help accommodate PRT training here in Auki.
“Not only that but now that the building is available, it is easy for PRT officers to come down and do training from us unlike before when we face challenges with accommodation.”
He said, the building will play a major role during this transition period after RAMSI left and to put the full responsibility of looking after law and order in the country back to the local Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF).
“The public should see the building as a sign of trust in our local RSIPF as they strive to uphold law and order in the country after the departure of RAMSI.”
Mr Apaesi has thanked the Police Commissioner for coming down to Auki and officially opened the building.
He also acknowledged the presence of the Minister Derrick Manuari, Malaita Provincial Government, Australia High Commissioner to Solomon Islands and the Australia Federal Police at the opening ceremony.
