VURA Community High School has successfully hosted its 2018 school graduation on Thursday.
The graduation ceremony was held at the St Barnabas Cathedral in Honiara with a total of 243 students ranging from grade 6, form 3, form 5 and form 6.
Thursday’s graduation was a milestone and history for the school having for the first time include the form six graduates of 47 in total.
The graduation theme was “Success through Sacrifice” where speakers have enlightened the students, teachers and parents on its mean and importance.
“The theme is a more appropriate one that speaks to all stakeholders including the educators, supporters and students in particular about the crucial role and huge responsibilities that are expected of us,” School principal Allen Ketei said.
Mt Ketei said sacrifice by way of defining is about committing most of the valuable time, energy and the available resources to achieve or reach a level of success.
Director of Teaching Service at the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) Mr Mathias Kutai said any successful graduation has to go with acknowledgment to all who have contributed.
He then thanked the school board of management, staff and students, the education authorities and national government for the contributions to make the event a successful one.
In congratulating the students the school boss said these years are very important as they indicate some fulfilled requirements of the school system and should be regarded as being prepared to move on to another level in education.
“To the form 6 students, you are in the pre-conditional tertiary level and should be ready to undertake your form 7 studies once you are offered a space in any of the form 7 schools next year.
“Form 3 and 5 students, the road ahead is still a long way and you are just somewhere in the middle of the journey in schooling in the struggles of life,” he added.
Apart from issuing of certificates, there are also presentations of awards and other special awards to students.
The awards included academic awards, presentation of other awards including the school dux as well as School Principal’s leadership award especially to students’ leaders of 2018.
