THE unavailability of Malaita Members of Parliament (MPs) with the DCGA government at the historical peace and reconciliation ceremony at Aimela last week is a sad thing, says Mathew Wale.
Speaking at the event, the Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament for Aoke Langa Langa said he felt sorry that his fellow Malaita brothers with the national government were unable to make it to the historical event for the people of Malaita.
Mr. Wale said the event was a historic one since the Ma’asina Ruru, and he is of the view that Malaita MPs with the executive government should be part of the event.
The Opposition leader said the sovereignty that the country is enjoying now was started in Malaita with the Ma’asina Ruru movement.
He said reconciliation is a move in the right direction for the province, and in such a historical event national leaders representing the province should be part of it.
“The incident that took place in Malaita in 1927 is the starting of division in Malaita. Today, Malaitans are still divided, as seen in the lack of attendance by the Malaita MPs with the DCGA government.”
The Opposition Leader said he hoped to see one day these MPs wake up and see for themselves that the same money that triggered the 1927 event is still causing division among Malaitan leaders today.
With that, the Opposition Leader said no amount of money will buy the sovereignty of Malaita.
“The heroes in the past have proven it during the Ma’asina Ruru and the current MARA government has proven it.”
He said he is very humbled and honored to attend the reconciliation and unveiling of the Ma’asina Ruru monument.
“This is a great reminder of the past heroes who fought for the sovereignty of Malaita and Solomon Islands,” Mr. Wale said.
