Leader of Opposition has suggested that the country’s health expert should consider sourcing COVID antiviral drugs namely Paxlovid and Lagevrio.
Matthew Wale said this today in a statement following increasing number of cases in the country.
As of yesterday 755 cases have been recorded with five deaths so far.
“Our health experts should also look into the possibility of purchasing COVID antiviral drugs namely Paxlovid and Lagevrio, which are currently used in the US and recently approved by the Australian Government to fight COVID infections.
“Lagevrio is made by American pharmaceutical company Merck Sharpe & Dohme, and Paxlovid, by Pfizer.
“The Australian Federal Government just recently purchased a combined 800,000 courses of the pills, to be prioritised for the elderly and other high risk groups.
“The Government should redirect funds for the Pacific Games to purchase these anti-virals,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition has acknowledged the livelihood committee and stakeholders that have supported the food distribution rollout since yesterday.
He encouraged that food distribution be greatly expanded.
“Many households simply do not have enough food, with or without COVID infections. And many are sick but untested and are disadvantaged in this current situation. A data to identify these people should be prioritized,” he said.
