THE Leader of Opposition, Matthew Wale has urged the bestowal of generosity by Solomon Islanders to those in need and the standing up against evil and allowing for the extension of the love of God to others.
The Opposition Leader made the plea in his 2024 Christmas Message.
“Generosity is only meaningful when we demonstrate it to others. We must show compassion when we help others in need, we don’t just sit and watch. We must speak up against evil and stand for what is good and right.
“We must say no to violence in all its forms, especially violence against women, children and the vulnerable in our communities. We must put away all ways that can bring harm to our nation and to each other. Instead, we must extend the love of Christ the Savior to others.”
He said the Message of Christmas remains relevant for all time and it is a message of hope and of joy.
‘For unto us a Child is born to us a son is given. this truth can never change it stays the same forever. It is a message of good tidings, for the light has entered our darkness and darkness cannot overcome this light. God came as a baby during the first Christmas. He came and walked with us, stood with us and lived with us and ultimately took away our sins.”
The Opposition Leader said he knows that 2025 is going to be a hard year and urged that this festive season be a time for all Solomon Islanders to allow God to inspire in us his generosity.
“As we turn our eyes to look to 2025, I pray that we hold on to the hope that we have and work together for a better Solomon Islands, better villages, better communities, better families, better churches, better tribes and all of that now makes up a better Solomon Islands – A Solomon Islands where every person regardless of sex, regardless of skin color, regardless of whether they have big land or no land, regardless of whether they are well educated or not, regardless of whether they have money or not, can thrive, succeed and be free from oppression and unjust treatment, free from fear and free from corruption that spoils our country.
“Let us dare to be kind and be generous to uphold justice, to pursue peace and to walk in the way of our Lord Jesus Christ. We must reflect on the Good News that Prophet Isaiah prophesied [Isaiah 9: 6-7] 600 years before that first Christmas:
“For unto us a Child is born, to us a Son is given and the government will be on His Shoulders and He will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the Throne of David, and upon His Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this.”
