WANEAGU United FC is mourning the loss of its patron and strong supporter, late Titus Mokofi Fika, who was called to rest in the early hours of Friday morning.
Late Fika died at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara.
According to the club management, late Fika and his elder brother Stanley Sofu, east Kwaio MP, are the strong leaders behind the formation, success and progress of Waneagu United FC in the Telekom Super League (TSL) season 2020-2021.
Waneagu United is a new comer alongside Kula FC in this current TSL season and it sits comfortably in third position on the TSL table with 43 points as of last weekend.
Club President, Wilson Orisi said they are now mourning the death of one of their sponsor and supporters.
“The rise of Waneagu United FC in this current TSL 2021/2022 national league was because of both his leadership and Sofu’s vision and directions.
“Their vision to see Kwaio change and Kwaio rise in terms of Sports has motivated us those from Kwaio (both East and West Kwaio to run with their vision),” he said.
He said sad that their mission is not over yet, and yet he could not see what they are in it together by end of this tournament.
“But I realise that God has his timing and ways,” he said.
Late Fika has two more years to complete his term as a MP for West Kwaio at the time of his passing.
Following the footsteps of his elder brother, Sofu, late Fika made history in the 2019 National General Elections when he won the West Kwaio seat creating history for two blood brothers to lead both Kwaio constituencies.
Late Titus Fika a teacher by profession made his way up to the post of Chief Education Officer before he resigned to contest the West Kwaio constituency seat in 2014.
He lost to former MP the late Peter Tom.
He was then elected as the Malaita Provincial Assembly Speaker until he resigned to contest the 2019 National General Election (NGE) and won comfortably.
Late Titus Fika is the current Minister of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) after he resigned from the Opposition side and joined DCGA.
