THE Solomon Warriors FC team edges closer to claiming Melanesian Super Cup title for the second in a row following their 1-0 win against home rivals Western United FC on Thursday.
Dennis Ifunaoa scored the one and winning goal of the match to push Warriors into the comfort zone.
Warriors registered their first win against Vanuatu’s Erakor Gold FC early this week and the win now puts them in front with six points.
Western United equipped with some of Solomon Islands finest were unable to find the back of the net despite a handful of chances.
The defeat puts them in a tough position since their chances of finishing top depends entirely on the other two matches, one of which is a must win for them.
Warriors Coach, Moses Toata has confidently revealed that they are there to win.
“We always go out there to win and prove we’re the better team and that’s what we have to do on Thursday (yesterday).
“Our motivation is the same as always: to win, win and win.”
That was exactly what happened, despite a tough come back by United with the aim to avenge their 2-0 defeat on home soil.
“We want to take the Vanuatu tamtam back to Solomon Islands on Sunday,” he told the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFA) media prior to yesterday’s match.
Warriors had one final match to play, it will be against Amicale FC.
A win or draw will confirm their victory for the second time.
