HONIARA City is currently facing a water crisis since last week following the shutting down of Solomon Water’s water source at Kongulai.
This paper was informed that Honiara residents were without running water since last weekend.
It is understood that current heavy rains experienced in the country is the major cause.
This was then confirmed in a statement issued by the State Owned Entity last Friday.
Yesterday, Solomon Water delivered an update of the situation in another separate statement.
“Solomon Water would like to inform our valued customers that supply from our Kongulai source remain shut down due to the unstable weather conditions experienced currently in Honiara that caused heavy rains at our Kongulai Source causing high turbidity (dirt particles in water) and making it potentially unsafe to supply and distribute water to our customers
“This is necessary to protect our water system, pipes and meters from damage and to ensure water is properly chlorinated to make it safe,” the statement said.
It added that the following areas will be affected with low pressure or water outage:
Windy Valley, Namaruka,Banana valley, Laundry Valley, Rifle Range, Tasahe A, B & C, Ngossi Ridge, Tandai Heights, Tinge Ridge, Tavio, Ngossi Valley, Rove Police Quarters, Mbokona, Mbumburu, Geology, Rewa Road, Mbokona School, Ministers Ridge, Kaibia, Vavaya Ridge, Papaho, Mbokanvera Heights, Skyline Memorial, Koa Hill, Mbokanvera 1 – 5, Choviri, Tehamaurina, Fijian Quarter, Papaho to Mataniko, Cana Hill, Vara Creek Heights, Aekafo/Jericho, East & West Kola Ridge, Matariu, Koloale School, Koloale Home Finance, Koloale FFA Ridge, Feraladoa, Fulisango, 777 Bus Stop, Naha Heights, Tanuli, Mbua Valley, Kukum Heights, Fulisango East Zion, Kombivatu, Green Valley, Fishing Village, Kukum SINU, Panatina Plaza, Marine/SINU, Lio Ridge, Lau Valley, West Panatina Ridge, Mbaranamba Low & Mbaranamba ridge.

In the meantime, a special weather bulletin issue by the Solomon Islands meteorological service at 8:00 am yesterday said a trough lies over the country and links to tropical cyclone Uesi located west of Vanuatu and moving further away from Solomon Islands.
With the latest update, it is expected that Honiara City residents will soon enjoy efficient running water at their homes in the coming days.
