Dear Editor – Please insert this short note of mine about how the Japanese Government must have felt in relation to the handing over ceremony that occurred on Wednesday the 3rd September 2014.
Indeed, from the Japanese Government’s point of view, it must have been really disgusting to them that important government dignitaries who were invited failed to attend.
In fact, we do expect the Prime Minister, Minister of Mines & Energy, and the Minister of Infrastructure Development to do attend this very important occasion.
This is not just a project costing a few thousand dollars but $150 million, which came from the tax payers of Japan.
For responsible government ministers not to attend is terribly disappointing to say the least.
And please Office of the Prime Minister if you knew the Prime Minister would not attend due to other commitments such as parliament, you should advice those who are responsible for the ceremony to defer the time.
The non-attendance of the ceremony by the prime minister and his ministers does not speak well of our appreciation to the Japanese government who committed millions of its tax payers’ money to fund the Honiara and Auki water supplies.
I ask you the Government of the day to apologise to the Japanese government as a way of maintaining our cordial relationship with the Japanese.
