THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) together with the Integrated Economic Development and Community Resilience (IEDCR) are conducting a series of training sessions for the newly formed Ward Development Committees (WDCs) throughout Malaita this month.
These trainings are a crucial step in preparing and strengthening the committees to effectively facilitate projects within their wards.
The training kicked off with Ward 1 on September 9, followed by Ward 2 at Aimela School on September 11 and most recently with WDC members from Ward 29 at the Radefasu Community last week.
Malaita Provincial Project Coordinator for Integrated Economic Development and Community Resilience (IEDCR), Jather Ole Maenua emphasized that these training sessions are the first of their kind conducted at the ward level since the establishment of WDCs in 2019.
The sessions aim to equip WDC members with essential knowledge and skills related to their roles and responsibilities.
Moreover, the training will empower WDCs to understand the Policy Blueprint, particularly the sections relevant to WDCs and WDGs, while promoting public participation principles such as inclusiveness and social accountability.
The team plans to continue the training program with Ward 3 and subsequent wards after completing the sessions for Ward 29.
They expressed gratitude to MPG and the IEDCR project for their support in facilitating these initiatives.
According to the training schedule, the series of sessions is expected to conclude for all 33 wards by March 2025.
Member of the Provincial Assembly for Ward 29, Phillip Kwato’o expressed appreciation to MPG for providing this essential training opportunity for his WDC members.
