THE Governor-General (GG) Reverend David Tiva Kapu has highlighted that Solomon Islands needs peace to achieve its goals for 2025.
The Governor-General emphasised the necessity national peace to the achievement of the national goals for this year in his New Year’s Address on the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC).
Governor-General Kapu said the country’s successful staging of the National General elections and acceptance of the election results and the Prime Ministerial Election result along with its successful hosting of a number of regional and international meetings, the Oceania Rugby Sevens tournament and the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Minister’s Cup in 2024 were encouraging and were a demonstration of what peace and harmony can bring to Solomon Islands.
“It [election] had been done in a smooth and democratic way. We accepted this change, though some with some reservations, but we accepted it and continued with our support. We wish the new Government well and ask them to govern the affairs of this country with care, love and respect for its citizens in 2025 until the next general election.
“We played host to a number of Regional and International meetings in 2024 and as well as successfully hosting Games such as the Rugby 7s and MSG Prime Minister’s Cup in December 2024.
“These are encouraging to see and we thank the organisers of such events for the confidence they have in our country to host these events, be they social, business, government or sports, all go to show what peace and harmony can bring to our shores.
“We need peace in the country to achieve our goals for the New Year 2025.”
“For this reason, I want to encourage all my fellow citizens and good people of Solomon Islands, we must continue to fight for peace again and again. It is fundamental if we are to realise our dreams and hopes for a better Solomon Islands.”
