Weak law enforcement has encouraged more locals venturing into brewing illegal homemade alcohol Kwaso.
An elder and Teacher Boniface Aririmae raise this concern saying most people has continued to produce the illegal kwaso because police and responsible authorities are weak to enforce the law.
He said that most people who secretly producing kwaso has nothing to fear because the government and responsible authorities are reluctant to attain to reports of kwaso brewing activities.
Mr Aririmae believes that government and responsible authorities should do more to address this ongoing issue and stop this practice in the community.
He said a lot of communities have raised the same concern over and over again but was never addressed.
He said the increased production of kwaso now affects students from various schools in the country.
“We learn that most students have been affected of this illegal kwaso business.
“It has disturbed the concentration and ability of students to learn at schools.
“The accessibility and cheap price of kwaso is one thing that attracts young students. This is a silent threat to our education and academic learning of our children.” Mr Aririmae said.
Meanwhile President of Malaita Province Council of Women Martha Rurai has called on the police to do more on dealing with kwaso brewing issue in the province.
