JUST like last year, Weightlifting Fiji once again dominated the awards count at the 2013 Fiji Sports Awards on Friday night.
The federation won three awards — Coach of the Year going to Joe Vueti, Organisation of the Year and Young Female Athlete of the Year won by Ulina Sagone.
Last year Weightlifting Fiji received a massive five awards — Sportswoman of the Year (Maria Liku), Administrator of the Year (Lillian Amasa), Technical Official of the Year (Della Shaw), Team of the Year and the Organisation of the Year.
Weightlifting Fiji president Sharlene Nand was impressed with the achievement and hopes it will help lift the profile of the sport.
The organisation under her guidance has improved tremendously, receiving accolades locally and internationally.
Nand said they had a very busy season with Oceania Championship in Samoa in June and Youth Olympic Games in China in August topping their competition calendar.
She said the building of a new gym in Levuka was another highlight.
“A very big thank you to all the team members, the lifters based in Levuka and Suva and our sponsors. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible.”
