Solomon Islands Weightlifting has once again been praised for its achievements in competitions abroad.
Just a few days ago Solomon Islands flag was raised when young female weightlifter, Arina Kalibiu scooped bronze medal in the women’s 69kg weight category at the Commonwealth Youth Games held over the past two weeks in Apia, Samoa.
A statement from the president of the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI), Martin Rara yesterday spoke highly of her achievement.
Rara also revealed that Ms Kalibiu is the second athlete to have a won a medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
“NOCSI is very happy and so thankful for the fine performance by Arina during the game.
“Actually she was the second person to win medals at the games NOCSI is happy to congratulate Arina and the federation for the job well done,” he said.
Boxing was the first sport to win a medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in 2011.
Solomon Islands attended the recent CYG with five sports namely: boxing weightlifting, swimming, tennis and athletics.
