A CONSIGNMENT of clothes and cooking utensil is on its way to Honiara to assist in relief efforts now underway.
Western provincial premier Robert Pye Kuve formally handed the consignment to provincial disaster officer Silas Arukwai, provincial disaster chairman Eric Kikolo before they were loaded onboard local ferry – MV Fair Glory.
The boat left Gizo Wednesday morning and is expected to arrive this morning in Honiara.
The consignment consisted of 12 bags of mix-clothes and a further two bags contain cooking utensils.
The relief assistance is for victims that reside along the lower and inland Mataniko river.
Premier Kuve said the assistance goes to the flash flood victims as part of the very initial phase before bigger relief efforts carry on.
He used the moment to express deep sympathy to the victims of the recent flash flood and extended deep regrets to relatives who lost loved ones during the flooding.
The donation has been fully acknowledged as a true sign of national unity in standing together in good and in bad times, the provincial disaster office said.
Last week’s devastating flood had so far claimed 23 lives with many more still missing.
