AS a way forward in their support to see the country switching its diplomatic ties with China, the Western provincial government is eyeing a sister-relation with a province in China.
This was confirmed by Premier David Gina through the provincial media officer Brian Betti.
He added that a paper on the matter is being finalized and will be deliberated on in an executive meeting next week.
“Western Province has made its position and support on the China move.
“This is on top of an agenda which is expected to go before the Provincial Executive,” Betti said.
Premier Gina said that besides the overall objection and show of support on the China move, the best way forward is to establish a sister relation with a province there.
According to Mr Betti, the Premier is satisfied that creating such relationship with China will be beneficial for the province.
Western Province has made similar arrangement back in the early 1980s, he added.
Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands China Friendship Association (SICFA) has also made a presentation to the Malaita provincial government on a similar agenda a fortnight ago.
The presentation was to inform the Malaita provincial members about the opportunities that are available for the province to explore and develop the province.
These are opportunities for cultural exchanges, scholarships and investment.
In response to the offer, Malaita provincial premier Daniel Suidani said his executive will meet soon to decide on the issue.
It is understood that Guadalcanal province has benefited from similar dealings by having sister relation with one of the cities in China.
