Western Provincial Government (WPG) executive will meet this week to allocate some funds to support the upgrading of the Gizo Hilltop road.
This came after the Roman Catholic Church and Dalgro have agreed to support the upgrading of the road which had been in its worst state.
Last week a delegation from the province met with the two organisations to negotiate with them about improving the road.
And both parties have agreed to temporarily upgrade the road. Work on upgrading road has begun over the weekend.
Provincial Finance Minister Lester Saomasi said, the province lacks funding to support such upgrading work therefore the executive will meet this week to allocate some funds to support the two organisations.
“The province does not have enough funds, only the national gov’t had funds for such infrastructure but since the road is in a bad state, the province decided to fix the road temporarily while waiting for the mother government to support the project.
“Therefore the Western Provincial executive will decide on the funding assistance this week to support to support this road maintenance,” the Provincial Finance Minister said.
