THE Western Provincial Government (WPG) will be looking at options to charge fees for some of the local vessels accessing and berthing at the wharves located at various wards throughout the province.
This was highlighted by Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Calrick Runimetu following questions raised by some of the Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for ward 3 Gideon Tuke during the budget debate on Friday.
MPA Tuke in his remarks said, so often berthing fees have been charged on vessels using the main wharves at the main centres like Gizo and Noro.
“But how do we deal with our ships that go into our rural villages to berth at the wharves and use the infrastructure,” he said.
In response, the provincial minister of finance responded by saying; “We will look into and help find ways to address this,” he said.
In Western Province there are newly construction being constructed in the past years by the national government and are located in a number of islands and communities.
Some of the wharves at located at Lengana in Simbo, Emu Harbour in Ranogga, Dovele in Vella, North New Georgia, Gasini in Marovo.
