THE Western Provincial Full Assembly meeting will now convene at the end of this month instead of Thursday.
This followed a high court ruling on Tuesday in relation to an order issued by the Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) Rollen Seleso last week.
Minister Seleso on Friday ordered that the Western Provincial Full Assembly must convene tomorrow – 11th November (Thursday) to debate the budget and a proposed motion of no confidence.
However, reports reaching the paper last night said a last minute ruling by the high court ordered the amendment to the order signed by Minister Seleso.
This means yesterday’s ruling agreed with the date appointed by the Western Provincial Assembly Speaker and the Clerk for the full assembly to convene on Monday 29th November which is in three weeks time.
Seleso last week issued the order after the absence of Western Provincial Assembly members during the last two meetings held in Gizo, and a legal tug of war over accountability and legality of the previous meetings.
This has left the province without a budget for the final financial quarter 2021-2022.
MPGIS also ordered an assembly meeting on Monday 25th of October. However, the premier, his executive (government) members, the Clerk and Speaker of Assembly did not attend.
And this has further forced Minister Seleso to issue the order on Friday.
Yesterday’s high court ruling was welcomed by many members of the Forum Gizo online group.
