A statement from Westpac countering reports in the Solomon Star on Wednesday which stated that BSP will be taking over Westpac as of this week, said further consultations is ongoing.
On Wednesday the Solomon Star quoted a Westpac spokesperson saying sales to BSP should be completed by this week and Westpac operations cease.
Westpac said they have not completed the sale of its Solomon Islands operations to Bank of South Pacific Ltd (BSP).
“On Friday 10 July, Westpac completed the sale of operations in Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga and these are now owned by BSP.
“In Solomon Islands, BSP and Westpac are continuing consultation with the Central Bank of Solomon Islands in order to obtain all necessary approvals.
“Westpac is operating business as usual in Solomon Islands while this occurs.”
