THE wet weather conditions experienced the past two days has caused frustration to vehicle owners and drivers throughout Honiara.
With the continuous heavy downpour experienced, already large portions of the main highway in Honiara has again started to deteriorate.
“This is a cause of nature and no one can stop it from occurring over and over again, however it is indeed a burden to all road users, especially vehicle drivers.
“The deteriorating road condition simply shows the lack of proper road maintenance done by contractors.
“This is a concern that responsible authorities need to consider especially when deciding on which company that mends the roads,” a group of drivers informed this paper.
Not only is the main highway of prime concern, but also feeder roads throughout Honiara.
“What kind of road maintenance keeps deteriorating every time there is heavy down-pour?
“This has been experienced over and over again.
“Something needs to be done to make sure that whenever maintenance is done, the road (tar) remains intact even during heavy rain,” they said.
A drive throughout the Honiara City yesterday, Solomon Star saw a lot of communities involved in mending their own roads and drainages to ensure their vehicles can drive through the deteriorating roads.
Police meanwhile urged all road users to take extra precaution when using the roads to prevent unwanted traffic accidents.
