National Sports Federations (NFs) have questioned why appointment of a new general secretary for the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) has been delayed for so long.
In a written statement yesterday concerned members of various federations called upon NOCSI to explain why it has taken so long for NOCSI to vote a person for the post which has been vacant since the new NOCSI executive was elected last year.
They said federations have been facing problems which require the help of a general secretary.
Star Sports understands that currently one of the NOCSI executive members, Naoyuki Fujiyama is acting general secretary.
The post was supposed to be filled right after the election of the new NOCSI executive last year but was delayed from time to time without proper explanation from NOCSI.
The statement reads that there are fears the position has been politicized which brought about the delay which NOCSI has been silent about for the past months.
The NFs call on NOCSI to come out and explain the reasons for the delay and take quick action to fill in the position as it is really needed especially when upcoming regional and international competitions abroad are coming up.
In response, NOCSI acting president, Joe Au Ramosaea said the issue will be resolved soon.
He added that the decision for the appointment of the new general secretary will coincide with the election for the NOCSI presidential position.
He stressed that it is not good for NFs to make speculation on issues they are unclear about but must have the courage to seek answers from the NOCSI office for further clarification on the matter.
