Dear Editor – The West Honiara Council (WHC) would like to affirm its stand that there were voters from other constituencies who have no connection to West Honiara by work, business, community or land, who registered in the constituency.
This is evidence that the SIEC must work on.
The WHC is certain the more than 500 people were brought in but due to the poor administration of the registration centers during the objection and omission period, the slowness of people to be upfront to report this incident and the confirmation after the investigation process made it very difficult to quickly object these culprits in time before the closing date.
It is evident that there are voters from Lokuru, GPPOL 1, GPPOL 2 and GPPOL 3, Central province, East Honiara and Central Honiara.
WHC is calling upon those of us that are part of the list to stay away from West Honiara voting in respect of your integrity and avoiding embarrassment during voting.
It is very obvious that the Electoral Office has not done its homework during the objection period as the majority of registration centers where electoral officers should be based to sort out our problems never had any listing of the voters, no forms to be filled and no officer to man.
The electoral officers only left one list with a residence in White River and took off so as a result the first people that attended the list took a huge chunk of it with them.
Therefore identifying these culprits was very difficult.
Secondly there was never any information for voters on the objection or omission processes and the electoral act during the whole objection period.
This information was only made available after the extension period. It was like the SIEC deliberately did not want us to understand the electoral act and the rules in the objection and omission process.
Therefore we appeal to Haununu to focus on the issue and not diverge from the allegations.
The fact of the matter is that we have enough evidences to tackle these culprits during the hearing and then we can come up with a professional objection notice not for only the voters but also for SIEC to look at the evidences and take some action under its powers on the qualification of Mr. Tran to contest the upcoming respected National General Elections.
