Dear Editor – This is a brief comment on Barnabas Tavala’s response to an earlier article I wrote under an assumed name and published in your paper under the heading “Where does bribery begin?”.
At the outset, Barnabas Tavala is not the author’s real name so he is a hypocrite.
For the time being, I will simply refer to the writer under his assumed name.
Barnabas Tavala appears to think he has made a significant discovery by publishing my name as the author of the article referred to in Tavala’s.
I will not reveal his identity in this article but will do so in subsequent articles where I will not only reveal who he is but also the part he had played in organizing fraudulent land acquisitions for bridges on Guadalcanal and planned acquisitions for other projects also on Guadalcanal.
I am surprised that Tavala had made a fuss about using a pen name in publications.
He has used Barnabas Tavala in his response to the article referred to.
What I am not sure of is whether he has given permission to the Solomon Star to reveal his identity to any reader of the article who might be genuinely interested in the identity of the writer as I had done, in writing to the Editor.
A request has been sent in good faith to your paper requesting information on the real identity of Barnabas Tavala and purposely to be able to respond fully to what Barnabas Tavala wrote in response.
For the sake of your readers Barnabas Tavala is a political appointee in the PMO who is pretending to be some top notch “academic” in the Prime Minister’s Office.
This is a brief message for him.
Real academics are engaged at Universities, Research Institutions and top corporations, conduct research as academic and paid based on the research undertaken as academics.
What is this pseudo academic doing as political appointee in the Prime Minister’s Office?
The confused state of the mineral industry and persistent incidences of maladministration of Prospecting and Mining Licences reflects this pseudo academics level of competency in this sector.
Barnabas Tavala’s claim that I was disappointed at not being appointed Secretary for Gold Ridge subcommittee is an understatement.
If there is anything I am more disappointed about, it is not being appointed for a professional post for which I went through a panel of interviews and selected among other candidates for the post.
I am aware that Barnabas Tavala had also applied for the same post and didn’t even make it on the list.
He reportedly made a fool of himself at the interviews when he finally made it to the interview panel as the result of political pressure.
What kind of advice is Barnabas Tavala capable of giving to government given that record?
Barnabas Tavala, I am disappointed with the approach the Gold Ridge Committee has taken in government’s current efforts to reopen the mine at Gold Ridge especially the level of misinformation given by the Committee to Gold Ridge communities.
Of particular concern to me Barnabas Tavala is the allegation that you have personally initiated the spreading of rumours that the leader of a landowning group seeking proper dialogue with government prior to the reopening of Gold Ridge as a means to isolate the leader from the members of his group.
To your readers, I stand by what I had written that the trip undertaken by Minister of Mines recently raises concerns and it should have raised questions to you as well Barnabas.
You seem to know more about the GP case than I do.
I am not disputing that. What I will be disputing about is the reason why the Court rejected the prosecution’s case against the GP accused is that the charges laid had been based on an amendment of the penal code that has yet to be gazetted.
What is your take on that? Is it a point of law or a technical point thus is not directly related to actual wrongs that the GP gentlemen were accused of?
Barnabas Tavalu, whether someone is a Minister of any Ministry is not at issue.
What that someone does as a Minister is the issue.
Had Bradley Tovosia originated from places where Muri name is the common name or any Provinces, I probably would not have cared much but he is an elected representative of Guadalcanal people.
As said earlier, I will respond fully to the contents of your letter and will reveal who you are in my next article and promise that I will elaborate on things I might have missed.
Rest assured, I will be using my real name.
Patrick Nanau
