POLICE in Gizo, Western Province, have arrested and charged a male adult for allegedly producing homebrew in the township after the suspect’s wife reported the matter to the police.
Police confiscated a 20-litre bucket and 70-litre bucket of the illegal homebrew when they arrested the suspect at his home in Gizo on Thursday.
The suspect was charged under the Liquor Act for the illegal production of homebrew. He has been released on bail to appear in Court on 21 August.
“The interesting thing about this case is that the suspect’s own wife reported her husband to the police and we commend her action.
“It shows that such illegal activities can be curbed if everyone including family members co-operate to report such illegal activities to the police,” said Provincial Police Commander Western Province, Mathias Lenialu.
Police encourages other members of the community to come forward and report such illegal activities so our families can live in peace without the threat of crime.
