PRESIDENT of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), William Lai said everyone who took part in the recent Solomon Cup tournament should be proud to be part of a historical event.
He highlighted the most important thing is for everyone to come together despite whatever province to celebrate football.
“All of you who took part in the two weeks of football competition, supporters, players, coaches, security, stakeholders, and everyone who helped one way or the other should be proud of yourselves.
“The importance of these two weeks was that it brings everyone from all provinces and races in the country together.
“That’s the beauty of football, football can really break barriers
“Despite having only one winner in the competition, every participating teams are all winners because, at the end of the day, football is the winner,” he said.
Lai said the huge turnout throughout the competition shows that football is very much alive in the Solomon Islands despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.
As president, Lai is impressed to witness the competitiveness and support throughout the competition.
He said the future of football in the country depends on everyone coming together and working together.
The Solomon Cup tournament also marks the final competition on SIFF’s calendar for this year.
