SOLOMON Islands national men’s football team has made a positive start to their Tri-nation international friendly match series campaign in Fiji.
The Solomon Islands national team came from a goal down to finish off with a 4-1 win over the Fijian U20 side yesterday.
The Fijian youth side was the first to find the back of the net, a goal by Abdullah Niyaz which came at the half hour mark.
A minute before the half time break, Solomon Islands hit back with the equalizer by striker Adrian Mara.
The national team returned in the final 45 minutes more organized.
Two minutes into the second half, team captain William Komasi extended the lead for their second goal.
Ali Mekawir made it three from a penalty five minutes later before Bobby Lesley scored the fourth four minutes before full time.
Solomon Islands first 11 players comprised of mainly the country’s U23 players led by captain William Komasi.
National team Coach Felipe Arango told Fiji Times prior to yesterday’s match that fielding the U23 players in the tournament also serves as preparations for the OFC Olympic qualifiers in September.
Solomon Islands will play the Vanuatu national side at 6pm on Thursday for their second match.
