THE prosecution will today continue to call their witnesses in the trial against the nine men who allegedly robbed gold bars, cash and mobile phones at the Winwin Mining Camp in Guadalcanal in 2020.
This followed a visit to the crime scene -Winwin Mining Camp – by the prosecution and their witnesses, the defence and the magistrate yesterday.
The trial started on Monday and continued on Tuesday before it was adjourned for today to allow the crime scene visit yesterday.
The prosecution is still calling its witnesses in the trial before Chief Magistrate, Emma Garo.
Greg Hurainima, Samson Sake, Norman Garnita, Martin Maelifanua, Samo Kabolo, Ken Anilava, Harrison Ramo, Olson Seda and Watson Tabaliau are standing trial for the charges of Armed Robbery and Impersonating Police Officer.
They were accused of entering the mining camp in a G-plated land cruiser in the early hours of 9 December 2020 and removing two gold bars, $140,000 in cash and 15 mobile phones.
It was alleged some of the men wore balaclavas, whilst others wore the police sky blue uniform and police t-shirts.
The men were also allegedly armed with pepper spray.
Only two mobile phones were recovered so far.
Lawyers from the Public Solicitor’s Office, Ron Dickie Pulekera, Ben Alasia, Bobby Harunari and private lawyer, Ben Etomea, represent the accused, whilst Vernon Taupongi from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution is the prosecuting officer.
