Temotu Vatud MP Freda Tuki Soriacomua has hit back at the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) president Sir Nathaniel Waena over accusations that she was an arrogant party-hopper.
Soriacomua contested and won last year’s election under PAP ticket.
But she said she’s now resigned from PAP and now a Kandere Party member.
She explained there’s nothing fishy about her resignation from PAP.
Instead, she said she left before of the arrogance of the party leadership.
“My move was clear and precise because the president was dictating and wants us the members to follow what he exactly wishes,” Soriacomua claimed.
“It’s very colonial, and I personally cannot settle in well and accommodate such leadership. Let alone the other two MPs who have also deserted PAP.”
Soriacomua confirmed both MP for Central Makira, Nestor Ghiro and MP for Ulawa/Ugi, Bradford Marau have also moved out from PAP, leaving only Milner Tozaka the only PAP member.
The Vatud MP said she has high respect for PAP, the president and its members and wants to remain but the way it’s administered under current president is not favourable.
She said what she did was what’s best for her so she can settle in well and concentrate on her job.
“I appreciate the help as claimed by the PAP president during the election, but let me get the story right that Casper Fa’asala who is a member of PAP is true.
“But his accompanying me was not under PAP, he was wearing the hat of the Coordinator for Women in Politics supporting women who ran during the election and every expense incurred was not covered by PAP,” she explained.
“I remain a women leader in Parliament and I have respect, high regard to actively involve and support women in the country.
“I have just come back from Fiji from a conference on violence against women, is that not a form of backing issues of the women of this country?” she questioned.
She said claims made by PAP president are non-sense.
“Because of his arrogant manner, PAP’s secretary has requested him to step down as president yet he continued to ignore the advice.
“And that is when we all decided to resign from the party because of his attitude.”
Sir Nathaniel in an expulsion letter dated 2nd May, 2015, stated Soriacomua is no longer welcomed back to PAP because she had “arrogantly displayed no appreciation towards the assistance of the party.”
