A division focusing on women in agriculture within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MALS) has not been included in the 2015 budget.
This division was established within the extension department in the Agriculture Ministry.
Its role was to assist rural women in the country with agriculture tools and training to improve their rural livelihood in the community.
A lot of projects being funded by the women in agriculture are targeting women which create employment and gave directs benefits to communities in the country.
A government source revealed to this paper yesterday said while all other departments have been included in next year’s budget, women in agriculture was unsuccessful.
“Women in agriculture was not included in 2015 government budget,” the close government source revealed yesterday.
The source said its unclear why this division was not included for next year but attributed lack of reporting and retirement of funds that may have resulted in this.
Last week the women in agriculture have ended a national training in Honiara.
