A DELEGATION from Lambeth Palace in the United Kingdom, England are currently in Honiara for a week-long training.
The team is being led by Mrs. Caroline Welby. The purpose of their one-week visit is to conduct a training called “Women on the Front Line” for ACoM Bishops’ wives and other women within the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM).
During the training they will join with them in prayer, sharing and to encourage each other.
Mrs. Welby is the wife of Archbishop Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury in the United Kingdom.
She is accompanied by Jane Namureye, Keren Lewis and Canon Rev. Sarah Snyder.
The Archbishop of ACOM the Most Reverend George Takeli, his wife and the President and members of the ACOM Provincial Mothers Union met the team at Henderson International Airport on Sunday afternoon before they left for Tete Ni Kolivuti (TNK) where the one-week program will be held.
Tete Ni Kolivuti or TNK for short, is the headquarters of the Sisters of the Church and is located on the eastern side of Honiara between Tenaru school and Foxwood.
“We have been waiting for this day and here it is,” Rev. Sr. Veronica, Sister Provincial of the Community of the Sisters of the Church said at a welcome ceremony held at TNK.
“We are happy to be your host and we are looking forward to provide you the best hospitality we can offer you this week,” she said to the visiting team including the Bishops’ wives.
According to the program outlined for the week, they will have retreats led by Mrs. Welby and team from Monday to Wednesday, followed by reflections, sharing and discussions in a form of training on the topics centered around – conflicts, violence, counselling, meditation and reconciliation.
Archbishop Takeli will also deliver his address on Wednesday which the ACOM Archbishop and Bishops’ wives as well as women leaders will reflect on.
Anglican Church of Melanesia is made up of nine dioceses with two in the Republic of Vanuatu and seven in Solomon Islands.
More than twenty women altogether are expected to participate in this week-long prayer, sharing, reflections, discussions and encouragements.
The program will end on Friday.
