WOMEN in the country will join people around the world to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day and the rights of women.
International Women Day falls on March 8 which is on Saturday and is celebrated each year globally.
The ministry of women and Honiara City Council women’s front desk are organising a day of activities to be held on March 11, next week Tuesday instead of Saturday.
The organising committee are finalising plans for the celebration next week.
According to an initial program, a march will begin at 7:30am from the HCC area to the art gallery where various awareness activities and entertainment will take place.
The organising committee is urging everyone to join the march and show their support.
IWD is a day when women are recognised for their struggles and achievements. It is also a day for promoting the participation of women as equal partners with men in achieving sustainable development, peace, security and full respect for human rights.
The global theme for this year’s IWD is ‘Equality for women is progress for all’.
For Solomon Islands, IWD 2014 theme is ‘Iokol Lidasip fo Mere en Man Save Sensim en Strongem Kandere’.
