RENOVATION work on the University of the South Pacific, Solomon Islands (USPSI) campus new classrooms in Honiara is underway.
This was after the campus (USPSI) secure a new building at Chinatown.
The renovation work commenced fortnight ago and is expected to finish by the end of this month, USP Solomon Islands campus administrative coordinator Layson Leve told this paper last week.
He said, that the new location was necessary following last April’s flash flood that washed away part of the western ground of the Mokolo building, which USPSI has been renting over the years.
“And also we are moving in here because the Mokolo building is currently under renovation,” Mr Leve said.
Mokolo building is owned by businessman and MP for Malaita Outer Islands.
After the flooding, USPSI shifted its tutorial and lectures to St. Nicholas and Honiara High school.
Mr. Leve revealed that the building will house two lecture theatres upstairs with four tutorial rooms plus the Solomon Islands Students Association (SISA) office downstairs and offices of the academic staffs.
“Partitioning work, electrical, installation of air-conditions and windows are currently underway.
“As soon as all the renovation work is done with installation of internet cabling by our IT staff then we can use the building to conduct our tutorials and lectures.”
He said they will not be moving back to the Mokolo building again.
“We’ll stay here till the Doma campus is completed.
‘While renovation and installation work continues throughout February, tutorial and lecture classes will be conducted as usual at St. Nicholas and Honiara High school,” said Leve.
The building was owned by a Chinese businessman and is located in Chinatown just opposite the Coronation Christian School.
All USP classes start 16th February.
