PLANS for Solomon Airlines to operate domestic flights into abandoned airports in the country is making progress.
That was according to the permanent secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) Moses Virivolomo.
He revealed this when appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) this week.
“Work to resume flights into long abandoned airports and newly constructed ones are on the right track.”
Some of these airports includes Parasi, Mana’oba and Lomlom.
The PS said an appointed committee within the ministry was assigned to deal with the negotiation work on these airports and applauded them for the job well done.
“One of the success stories of this committee is the reopening of Gwaunaru’u airport in Auki,” he commended.
He added Lomlom and Mana’oba are on the radar and Parasi in South Malaita will soon to resume flights, as the committee is working hard to ensure landowning groups come to common terms, for the reopening of the airfield.
