HONIARA-based local designers gathered yesterday morning to learn about the craft and skill behind fashion designing.
The training was held at APTC training room organized by the Solomon Islands Creative Writers Association and facilitated by a designer and artist Luke Gegeu.
Speaking to Paoa FM News Mr Gegeu expressed the significance of trade drawing and fashion illustration as the vital foundations when it comes to designing.
“The training is basically to prepare them to present their story board and what inspires their design, we are doing this now to also meet the criteria when it comes to taking their designs regionally or internationally,” he said.
The workshop was attended by 17 participants both new and old members in the fashion business.
The women also exited the training with smiles adorned on their faces as they wilfully showed some of the sketches drawn during the workshop.
Mr Gegeu emphasized on the validity of why trade drawing and illustration has to combine to make the final product requested by their client or to simply express the designer’s own creativity and originality.
“In trade drawings you developed patterns in fashion Illustration it deals more with the colours and these two has to combine, from the concept to sale as illustration to the technicalities,” he added.
The facilitator was also pleased with the participants who have collected a wealth of knowledge on that day to enhance their fashion businesses adding, he was impressed with the potential of the women.
“Their level of creativity is good to see among them and I’m very satisfied,” Mr Gegeu said.
The designer and artist also encouraged creativity in the country and stated that with the right mind big things can be achieved.
“Some talents are still out there lying dormant and needs to be discovered and exposed not only for money but also for the betterment of our society,” he expressed.
Mr Gegeu encourages local designers to keep being creative saying there is no right and wrong in designing, only creativity.
