MORE than 60 church representatives in Honiara have attended a two days workshop on 16 Days Activism on gender cased-violence this week.
The workshop was jointly facilitated by Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA) and Solomon Islands full Gospel Association (SIFGA) women’s leaders.
It was held on Monday and Tuesday this week at St. Barnabas Cathedral in Honiara.
The theme for the workshop was: “No more 1 in 3.”
SICA Project Officer Joy Jino explained the theme means three in one woman will experience gender-based violence in the country.
Therefore the workshop is important to provide information so that number of women experiencing gender-based violence can reduce.
“Reducing the number is the main goal of this workshop,” she said.
Sixty-seven (67) women leaders from different churches participated in the workshop.
This is part of the annual 16 Days of Activism on Gender-Based Violence, she said adding the workshop was a success.
Mrs. Jino highlighted that only God can make a change and all women must depend on God to make a change and stop violence against women.
She wants to see that gender-based violence must go down.
Throughout the workshop, various churches presented how they combat gender-based violence in their churches.
Jacinta Bina from Catholic Church said she learnt a lot from the workshop.
“I am a mother and violence against women and girls affects the family and the church.
“This workshop is very helpful,” she said.
Ms. Bina also advises men and boys to respect women and girls in the country.
Yesterday, 25th Wednesday, November marks the start of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women which will end on 10th December with the Human Rights Day event.
