A World Bank Technical Mission team is in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The team is led by the World Bank Global Director for Health, Nutrition and Population, Dr Juan Pablo Uribe and included Health , Nutrition and Population Pratice Manager Dr Ronald Upenyu Mutasa, Health Specialist Wayne Irava, Operationa Analyst Jim Waldersee and Health Finance Analyst Michael Mike.
On Monday the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Mrs Pauline McNeil welcomed the delegation.
The mission will run from the 10th to the 14th of February and the main objectives are to introduce the Global Director and Practice Manager to key officials within the Government of Solomon Islands, discuss opportunities for future engagements in the health sector, review the progress of ongoing analytical work and assess the outcomes of the COVID19 Emergency Response Project (ERP) through the Ministry of Health.
The mission will also launch and review the outcomes of the Solomon Islands COVID-19 Emergency Response Project, which recently closed December 2024, and discuss the health program of advisory services and analytics.
Following their arrival at Honiara International Airport, the team travelled to the National Medical Stores where they were given a tour of the facility to witness firsthand how World Bank funding is impacting on medication for the people of Solomon Islands.
Over the next few days, the mission will meet with Senior officials of both the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the National Referral Hospital (NRH) and visit various World Bank funded projects at the NRH and the Good Samaritan Hospital on Guadalcanal.
