Kurukuru depart for Aussie, Fiji
The Solomon Islands national men’s futsal team, Kurukuru has started their journey to the Oceania Futsal Championship with the aim of defending the title.
The 16 men team comprising of 14 players and two team officials departed for Australia, Monday where they will spend a few weeks before heading to Fiji for the championship.
Speaking prior to their departure, futsal sensation and team skipper Elliot Ragomo said the team is in top form and well-focused for the championship.
“We are prepared and focused on one thing and that is defending the title.
“All the players understand the importance of this trip to Australia and are ready to put in all efforts to make final amends for the championship in Fiji,” he said.
The Kurukuru team will play two international friendly matches against the Australian national futsal team, Futsalroos during their time in Australia.
The first match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30pm Friday, at the Dural Sports Leisure Center, New South Wales.
The second international friendly match is set for Sunday January 24 at 2pm at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, New South Wales.
The friendly matches are part of the Kurukuru team’s preparations for the upcoming Oceania Futsal Championship which is also the Oceania World Cup Futsal Qualifiers.
The championship starts on February 8.
