UNIVERSAL Peace Federation (UPF) commemorated World Peace Day in Honiara on Monday.
UPF is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) that is affiliated with the global movement to promote peace and unity among mankind.
Chairman of the organisation Chaniel Tome, who led the group march from Kumkum Campus to Samsung Cafe at Bahaii, said the event was successful as members of UPF marched along the road displaying banners engraved with the words‘World peace 2015’.
Others held the national flags and displayed symbols that portrayed human rights and freedom.
Mr Tome said it’s a special day to celebrate world peace in the country since this is a global movement to promote peace around the world.
“August3rdis being marked as the day for Solomon Islands to celebrate world peace.”
Mr Tome said they were happy to be part of this global peace movement by organising the event although most people are not aware of the event.
“By organising this event we managed to catch public attention and people realised the importance and meaning of the activities that we did to mark the world peace.
“The event truly reflects the meaning of peace and unity in our country.
“Members of the group have the opportunity to remember and salute global struggle to end violence and war that threatens human race.”
