THE Western Provincial Government (WPG) is committed to pursuing and addressing the water issue plaguing the provincial capital.
Provincial Premier Billy Veo highlighted this in his opening address at the Full Assembly Meeting held at Imagination Island, off Gizo town this week.
Most of the 26 Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) attended the meeting for the mid-term review of the revised budget.
The debate and scrutiny of the budget was held on Tuesday and passed.
Speaking on Monday, Premier Veo said Solomon Water has engaged another contractor to undertake further drilling and assessments at Mile 6 and the surrounding Tirokongu and Leoko water sources.
This came after the Solomon Water Project intended for Gizo has somehow encountered some key challenges.
Premier Veo assured that the provincial government will continue to seek options and avenues to fulfil these priority policy areas as captured in its communique.
Following the desalination plants offer by the Indian Government and consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade and the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification taskforce, the province is yet to receive further updates.
“We will be duly informed as soon as relevant reports are made available,” Premier Veo said.
