YANDINA women Under 16 League in Russell Islands, Central Province has kicked off.
The commencement of the league was marked with a colourful parade during which representatives of Solomon Islands Football Federation delivered an address.
Six teams are participating in a round robin format.
Most of the young women participating in the league are students of primary and secondary schools.
Chairlady of the organising committee Comunisa Manu said league games will be played every Monday.
Manu said it was an encouraging initiative whereby young girls are given the opportunity to explore their talents in this sport.
She thanked SIFF for assisting in organising the league.
“I am encouraged with the supports and interest shown by young girls in this particular sport.
“It is time to scout for young talents in this part of the province.”
The league is schedule to take three weeks.
