More than 50 primary students from Amoana Christian Academy (ACE) and Honiara Integrated Primary School (HIPS) arrived back in Honiara Sunday after attending a week-long convention in Fiji.
The students attended the regional Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) facilitated under the Southern Cross Educational Enterprises program at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.
ACE schools from all over the Pacific competed in sports and took part in church, academic, social activities that were organised for the convention.
Team leader of Amoana Primary School, Kristina Puia said the convention set the benchmark for students to further enhance their learning ability.
“The students from all over the Pacific who attended the convention participated in a lot of activities but for us we only took part in activities we were registered to participate.
“The activities were organised as part of an initiative to nurture Christian values and values of academic integrity ,” she said upon their arrival at the Henderson International Airport.
Ms Puia said the convention was an eye-opener for the Solomon Islands students.
“The students were so fortunate to be part of the program. They have learned alot from the programme activities. Three of our students won medals in the competitions they participated in.
“Leilani Seuika and Breana Tesuatai competed in the vocal duet competition and won the second prize.
“Walter John snatched the 1st prize in long-jump and the 2nd prize for soccer kick in the under 14 category, while Brian John won the first prize in long jump for the Under 16 category.
“These four students are now qualified for the upcoming Pacific ACE student convention, the date and venue for which will be soon confirmed,” Ms Puia said.
She then challenged other ACE schools around the country to organize themselves to be part of the next convention next year.
“I challenge other schools in the country to participate in the next convention. This program really helps build young people academically and spiritually and parents must encourage their children to participate in such programme. It is always a proud moment for parents witnessing their children showcasing their talents.”
Head of Honiara Integrated Primary School team to the convention, Webstar Buakalo said the Solomon Islands team has impressed the other Pacific participants with their outstanding performances.
“Our students regardless of age and height have proven themselves to be more active and competitive than their peers from around the Pacific.”
