The Honiara Youth Forum held its meeting Wednesday to discuss mental health issue.
Thirty-two young people attended the meeting.
They ended the forum by calling for partnership with government ministries and stakeholders to re-emphasis the importance of mental health as one of the pressing issues for young people in Honiara.
They also hope to develop the country’s first national mental health policy for Youths.
This Youth Forum is part of the International Youth Day commemoration called the Honiara Youth Voice event, which was organised by Honiara City Council-Youth Division and Honiara Youth Council (HYC).
The lead facilitator was Honiara Youth Council (HYC) with support from Youth Division of Honiara City Council (HCC) and 20 volunteers.
The participating authorities and organisations for the Youth Forum were Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, SIPPA, and Community Youth Groups.
The key speaker for the Honiara Youth Forum was Dr Paul Orotaloa, Director of Mental Health Unit.
He did a presentation on what is mental health and its importance to young people.
Orotaloa said the Honiara Youth Forum was a big success.
