SIX Youth groups within the Gizo Township will commence a thorough clean-up campaign in the Western Provincial capital this week.
This is ahead of the tour date for the famous cruise ship, Pacific Eden, this month.
Western Province Environmental Health Inspector Merilyn Vana, told the Solomon Star Gizo that her office has engaged youth groups from six zones in the island capital.
Youth groups are from the United church, Catholic Church, Anglican Church of Melanesia, Seventh Day Adventist, South Seas Evangelical Church and the Assembly of God.
The clean-up work is funded by the Ministry of Tourism, and will be done along the Gizo road and the Malakerava Beach.
Province’s Chief Tourism Officer Jeff Patovaki said that, Gizo High school students will showcase western Solomons Culture and Tradition through Dances, Chants, and Costumes during the cruise ship’s five hours stop-over.
The cultural show will be at the Gizo netball court.
He encourages people of Gizo to continue maintaining cleanliness of the town, as a way of life.
According to cruise timetable, Tourists will spent 10 nights in the Solomon sea, and will reach Gizo on 13th this month, before continuing on to Guadalcanal the next day.
The cruise schedule begins from Cairns, Australia to conflict islands, Kiriwina and Rabaul in Papua New Guinea, and then Gizo and Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands before returning to Australia.
Pacific Eden is also scheduled to tour the Solomons, next month.
One of the usual tourist attractions in Gizo is the ancient ruins of the Japanese Vessel Toa Maru.
