THE Young Women’s Parliamentary Group (YWPG)is hosting a first ever FilmFestival, coinciding with the ‘16 Days of Activism on domestic and gender-based violence’ in late November this year.
Following the success of last year’s “Girls in front” Film Festival which was introduced by Melbourne University professors and film experts, Jeanette Hoorn, Barbara Creed and Helen Simondson of ACMI; YWPG has taken on board the initiative to provide an avenue for both amateur and emerging young Solomon Islands filmmakers to showcase their films on domestic and gender-based violence (GBV).
This film festival is called “Say It Out Loud Film Festival” and it will involve two competitions in short film narrative and documentary films on the theme, “Break the silence”.
Submissions for both competitions are open from 31st August and closes on 11th November 2016.
The event is planned as an annual event for YWPG to host for 4 days during the 16 Days of Activism.
The festival organizing team is made up of young volunteer activists in media related fields, passionate about film making.
It is spearheaded by YWPG Communications team members.
YWPG is an initiative of Parliament, formed in 2011. It was originally set up as an institution to nurture young women leaders.
It is a forum where young women and men coming from various fields in public, private and voluntary, experience and take part in leadership.
